GO TEAM CANADA!

IT'S FINALLY HERE! THE 2010 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES!

Of course, I'll be cheering on Team Canada =), but GOOD LUCK to the best athletes of the world.

I'm also amazed by the large teams that have come to the ceremony, especially Switzerland (146), Germany (153), Russia (177), the United States of America (215), and Canada (206).

For those who didn't watch the Opening Ceremony (in which case, I'd call you insane for not!), it was spectacular! Canada has outdone themselves in every performance performed, as well as the architects, technicians, volunteers, workers, etc. for a job well done. Although there were some complications with the lighting of the Internal Torch, the ceremony was still well-displayed. A special performance was included by the Four Great Nations of the North, and the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada; in which they wore their traditional outfits and showed their traditional dances. They welcomed the entire world with open arms.

The Olympic 2010 Games were officially opened by non-other than the Governor General of Canada, and Representative for Canada to the Queen of England, Michaelle Jean.

During the ceremony, a 1-minute moment of silence was given for the fallen luge athlete of Georgia, Nodar Kumaritashvili, who died the morning of the Opening Ceremony due to a training accident in the Whistler Sliding Centre. It was said that the 2010 Winter Olympics was to make his first Olympic debut. I am sorry for his family, as well as his friends, supporters, fellow team mates and more, for this tragic loss.

Canadian celebrities also made appearances, including Nelly Furtado, Bryan Adams, and Sarah McLaughlan, who performed the official song of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The Olympic Flame was carried by 5 of the best athletes of Canada, including (by order): Paralympian Multiple Gold Medalist, Rick Hansen; 2-time back-to-back Gold Medalist and 5-time World Champion Speedskater, Catriona LeMay Doan; 2-time NBA MVP, Steve Nash; 1968 Olympic Ski Champion and Canada's Female Athlete of the 20th Century, Nancy Greene; and NHL's hocky superstar and infamous "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky. The Internal Torch was lit by Nancy Greene, Steve Nash, Catriona LeMay Doan, and Wayne Gretzky, while the External Torch was lit by the legend himself, Wayne Gretzky.

Here is a chart of the competitions and games in the 2010 Olympics (credit goes to Wikipedia):

Well, that's all for now. Once again, good luck to all the athletes who will be competing in the games.
